For the first time, Vietnam Construction And Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (HOSE: VCG) was named in the 50 best listed companies in 2021 voted by Forbes Vietnam Magazine.
To be presented in this list, the listed companies had to pass several evaluation processes. According to Forbes Vietnam, companies in the preliminary round had to meet the following criteria: be profitable in fiscal year 2020, with revenue and market capitalization of at least VND 500 billion. Companies were assessed quantitatively in the next round on the following criteria: compound growth rates of revenue, profit, ratios of ROE, ROC, and EPS growth rates from 2016 to 2020. After that, Forbes Vietnam conducts a qualitative survey to assess the sustainable development of the companies: the company’s position in the industry, the source of earnings, the quality of business management, the prospect of industry development, etc. The company’s capitalization was closed at the end of May 2021.
According to data from Forbes Vietnam, the total revenue of companies in the top 50 was more than VND 1,219 trillion, an increase of 8.7% over the top 50 best listed companies in 2020. However, the 2021 top 50’s total profit after tax increased by 26% to VND 174,482 billion, their total capitalization reached $145 billion (approximately VND 3,360 trillion), a 78% increase over their total capitalization in 2020, setting new records.
Top 50 companies in Forbes Vietnam’s 9th annual ranking have developed a competitive position in the market, dominating not only their own industry but also the whole economy.
The most notable companies were still those in the banking, securities, and real estate industries. There were 8 companies making a comeback to the list, while 11 others were newcomers. The companies in the travel and aviation industries were still not included on the list this year because of the worst impact of the pandemic.
According to Forbes Vietnam, in the context of the economy being negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic that caused production and business activities to be halted, and declining purchasing power in Vietnam’s main export markets, such results somehow demonstrate the durability and resilience of businesses
Vinaconex's consolidated statement for 2020 recorded VND 5,551 billion in sales and VND 1,605 billion in after-tax profit for the holding company, 2.3 times higher than the amounts in the previous year, demonstrating the corporation's powerful inner force in the pandemic's impact.
In the first nine months of 2021, Vinaconex achieved consolidated revenue of VND 3,610 billion and a consolidated pre-tax profit of VND 535 billion. As of September 30, 2021, the Corporation's total assets were VND 30,840 billion, an increase of 57% from the beginning of the year and 2% from the end of the second quarter. Its undistributed profit after tax was VND 2,043 billion, and equity was VND 7,608 billion.
Vinaconex, formerly known as a state-owned enterprise, is one of the top enterprises operating in the construction and installation industry with the highest market capitalization. After the equity restructuring process, the corporation has concentrated its resources on three core areas: construction, real estate, and financial investment.
Vinaconex also owns a large amount of assets that have been accumulated after many years of operation in the market.
Vinaconex's VCG stock recently set an all-time peak of VND53,000 per share, which was recorded in the trading session on December 1.
