VINACONEX ADVANCES RED RIVER BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION DESPITE CHALLENGING CONDITIONS

Thu , 08/10/2026, 14:00:00 (GMT+7)

The Red River Overpass Bridge, part of Package B.02 at Km46+932 of the Ninh Binh - Hai Phong Expressway, is taking shape across Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces. Despite challenging riverbed conditions, VINACONEX has mobilized substantial resources and opened multiple construction fronts to keep the project on schedule while maintaining high engineering standards.

The Red River Overpass stretches over 1.1 kilometers and is 24.75 meters wide, designed to accommodate four expressway lanes and two emergency stopping lanes. It’s one of the largest and technically demanding structures on the Ninh Binh - Hai Phong Expressway.

Building the main spans across the Red River presents major technical challenges. The bridge piers are located in deep water, with foundation pits extending nearly 23 meters below the water level. The foundations use large-diameter bored piles measuring up to 2 meters across and reaching about 100 meters below the working water surface.

On top of this, the geological and hydrological conditions, combined with the demands of working in a river environment, place high requirements on site organization. VINACONEX has proactively developed suitable construction plans, maintained strict control over each stage, and coordinated across work fronts to protect workers and ensure structural integrity

Overcoming hese challenges, VINACONEX has achieved substantial progress, with Package B.02 now approximately 54% complete by contract value. All bored piles, abutments, and temporary bridges have been finished.

Structural execution continues at an accelerated pace, with completed outputs reaching 20 out of 24 pile caps, 20 out of 24 pier bodies and abutments, and 17 out of 20 pier caps. Beam casting, girder launching, cross-beam assembly, and bridge deck construction are proceeding in lockstep.

VINACONEX is currently concentrating resources on main river piers T11 and T12. On site, construction fronts on the Ninh Binh bank, Hung Yen bank, and the central river span are maintained simultaneously around the clock. Even amid extended seasonal rains, the contractor mobilizes manpower and equipment, adjusting work coordination based on actual conditions and keeping construction on track.

Drawing upon extensive with large-scale transport projects, VINACONEX continues to optimize construction planning, maintain independent resources, and drive progress on the Red River Overpass. Once completed, the bridge will remove a major geographic barrier, advancing the completion of the Ninh Binh - Hai Phong Expressway and strengthening economic connectivity across the Red River Delta.
