VINACONEX IS HONORED TO HAVE THE FIRST ROOF-RAISING COMPLETION AT LONG THANH AIRPORT TERMINAL

Nearly four years since the groundbreaking ceremony, the Passenger Terminal of Long Thanh International Airport—the centerpiece of this mega project—is steadily taking shape. VINACONEX along with contractors of the VIETUR Joint Venture, remains steadfast in ensuring the project meets quality standards and timeline, aligning with the Prime Minister’s directives and investor commitments.

In the early days of December, the construction site was a hive of activity, with the hum of machinery and the voices of workers and engineers blending into a rhythmic symphony of labor. December 1, 2024, marked a significant milestone as VINACONEX proudly became the first contractor to roof-raise the steel structure for the airport’s terminal roof.

At the Package no. 5.10 site - construction and equipment installation for the passenger terminal building, VINACONEX has finalized the steel structure and is now advancing with purlin installation for the East wing roofing.

This is an important premise for Vinaconex and the joint venture of contractors to complete the entire steel structure and roof by April 30, 2025. The next phase will include installing waterproof glass ahead of the rainy season, constructing aviation equipment (TE) and mechanical and electrical (ME) systems, and completing the terminal’s interior. 

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Construction Director of Package No. 5.10, stated, “Installing the steel roof frame was a highly technical and complex task, the largest steel truss system here spans 82 meters, weighs over 200 tons, and requires crane reaches of up to 72 meters, making on-site handling and installation extremely challenging. To address these difficulties, Vinaconex deployed most modern machinery and equipment in Vietnam, including cranes with lifting capacities of 500 to 800 tons, to implement this item.”

Vinaconex, a key contractor, is working tirelessly on Package No. 4.6, which encompasses critical infrastructure such as runways, taxiways, and parking facilities. With an investment exceeding VND 7,200 billion, construction began in August 2023 and has already surpassed 40% completion. Current efforts focus on excavation, filling, and cement concrete work, with the package expected to be operational by April 30, 2025, despite its later start compared to other components.   

The Long Thanh International Airport project, with a total investment exceeding $16 billion, is being developed in three phases. Phase 1, budgeted at $5.45 billion, is designed to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually, with operations slated to begin in 2026.  The terminal, the centerpiece of this mega project, broke ground on August 31, 2023. Once completed, the airport will not only elevate the aviation sector but also serve as a symbol of national progress and ambition.
