The Bai Vot – Ham Nghi section of the Eastern North-South Expressway is set for technical opening on April 19, six months ahead of schedule, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Liberation of South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
After over two years of construction, with close supervision from the investor -Thang Long Project Management Board, and the efforts of contractors and supervision consultants, the Eastern North-South Expressway Phase 2 is on track. The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi section’s technical opening will take place on April 19, with the main route expected to be open for operation by April 28.The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway is 35.28 km long, with a total investment of VND 7.643 trillion. The project begins at the intersection of National Highway No. 8 in Thanh Binh Thinh commune (Duc Tho) and connects to the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway, ending at Thach Xuan commune (Thach Hà), where it links to the Ham Nghi - Vung Áng section.The initial design includes four lanes with a 17-meter-wide roadway, which will be expanded to six lanes with a 32.25-meter-wide roadway once the project is completed.A joint venture contractors of VINACONEX (Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation) and 319 Corporation (Ministry of National Defense) has been responsible for the construction of this Bai Vot - Ham Nghi section.Over the past time, the two contractors have mobilized maximum manpower, machinery, and equipment, with multiple teams working simultaneously across the entire section of the expressway.To date, the construction progress for the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway has reached over 90%, ensuring the technical opening on April 19 and the operational launch on April 28, in line with the direction from the Government and the Ministry of Construction. The technical opening of the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi section is part of a series of events to celebrate the nation's significant holidays and will facilitate travel during the April 30 - May 1 holiday period. Currently, the main expressway section is nearly finished with asphalt surfacing. VINACONEX contractor is working on the installation of median strips, traffic signs, and protective fencing.The interchanges are also ready to allow traffic flow when both expressway sections are operational.Traffic signs along the expressway are being continuously completed.Although construction faced some challenges, the cooperation between the investor, contractors, consultants, and local authorities helped ensure that the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway was completed six months ahead of schedule.On April 19, the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang, Bung - Van Ninh, and Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway sections will officially open, becoming operational. These new routes will connect key transport corridors, gradually completing the North-South expressway. This event not only opens up strong development opportunities for regions but also serves as a meaningful gift, joining in the nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's reunification.
