LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF THE SELECTION CONTEST FOR SHOPPING MALL ARCHITECTURE OPTIONS AND RIVERSIDE LANDSCAPE DESIGN IDEAS OF CAT BA AMATINA URBAN AREA

On the morning of March 16, 2021, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Association of Architects, No. 40 Tang Bat Ho, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi, the launching ceremony of the selection contest for the architectural design options of the shopping mall and the selection contest for the riverside landscape design ideas of phase 1 Cat Ba tourism urban area AMATINA took place. These are two special competitions with scale of the project worthy of the country and the region level, exclusively for Vietnamese architects and architecture students.

The contest, organized by Architecture Magazine - Vietnam Association of Architects in collaboration with VINACONEX Investment and Tourism Development Joint Stock Company (VINACONEX - ITC), under the auspices of the Vietnam Association of Architects, has received enthusiastic attendance of leading representatives of Vietnam Association of Architects, VINACONEX Corporation, University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi University of Architecture. Domestic prestigious design consultancy units also participated in the contest

• As a complex of modern, regional shopping mall, attracting commercial and entertainment activities of the whole town and Cat Ba island, creating distinctive iconic products for Project;
• As a unique and creative architectural work, creating a highlight for the appearance of landscape architecture in the East area of the project as well as Cat Ba town;
• As a modern architectural work, following the green and eco-frendly trend,;
• The project is expected to become an identification symbol of the Cat Ba Amatina Project in particular and of the Cat Ba archipelago as well as Hai Phong city in general.

Architect Le Truong - Director of TTAs Architecture - Construction Joint Stock Company, which participated in the contest, shared at the launch ceremony: "Up to now, reputation developers in Vietnam have often been interested in foreign companies, but at a large-scale competition such as the architectural design contest of the shopping mall of the Cat Ba AMATINA tourist urban area this time, the developer has oriented exclusively to domestic consulting units. As a contest participant, I am delighted for this, and I believe that domestic architectural consulting units can completely meet the design requirements. At the same time, this is a contest with a professional, serious, transparent and clear organization, creating conditions for design consultants to promote their full capabilities.

Other design consulting units also expressed their satisfaction when the developer and the organizers created an opportunity and a playground for Vietnamese architects to try out at such a large-scale and meaningful project. This will be a chance for Vietnamese architects to demonstrate their ability in creating works imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity.

The contest will take place from March 16 to May 16 of 2021, with the participation of prestigious domestic experts and design consultants, promising many attractions, finding out the premier architecture plannings for different areas in Cat Ba Amatina Urban Area, becoming a green and modern urban area, contributing to improving the living quality and creating an increasingly spacious and modern country appearance. 

The contest to select ideas for riverside landscape design for Phase 1 Cat Ba Amatina tourist urban area, is open for students majoring in Architecture and Planning from University of Civil Engineering and Hanoi University of Architecture. Putting the trust in the young generation - the next generation of architects, the contest aims to find excellent ideas about the overall development of the riverside landscape and detailed landscape design solutions for riverside, bringing new vitality to the river and surrounding areas, in line with the investment objectives of the Company - VINACONEX - ITC. Specifically:

• Promoting the creative ideas of students majoring in Architecture - Planning to build a unique landscape space on riverside, bringing an impressive, green, and regional image to the Cat BA Amatina tourist urban area;
• Forming a walking street along both sides of the river (with specific themes), in order to provide a good living environment for urban residents and an impressive experience for tourists coming to Cat Ba Amatina Tourist Urban Area;
• In addition to contributing to the creation of urban spaces The idea of landscape design, , also contributes to the creation of a riverside ecological landscape environment, at the same time forming cultural activities, community activities, improving environmental quality;
• Enhancing the value of works in Cat Ba Amatina tourist urban area.
   

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa – Principal of the University of Civil Engineering expressed: “I am joyful that the students of the school can participate in this competition. Assoc.Prof.Dr.Architect Le Quan – Principal of Hanoi University of Architecture expressed: “Given the scale of the project, this is really an attractive contest for architects and architecture students to attend. The competition, with careful and professional preparation, will be an opportunity for architects and architecture students to unleash their creativity, creating modern, advanced and cultural identify works as the goal that the Vietnam Association of Architects has been aiming for in recent years.”

Cat Ba Amatina Tourist Area project invested by Vinaconex-ITC has a total area of 172.38ha located on Cat Ba island, Cat Hai district, Ho Chi Minh City. Hai Phong. The project is oriented to become a high-class tourist urban area with a development strategy on the following rules: (i) Taking full advantage of location and natural beauty; (ii) Developing unique and novel functional areas; (iii) Creating favorable connections with neighboring areas by road and waterway; (iv) Turning the project into a unique and attractive destination in the chain of tourist destinations on Cat Ba Island; (v) Developing tourism activities and festivals throughout the year. 

This is a project with a special location in the complex of Ha Long Bay, in Lan Ha Bay. With a special terrain, it demands high requirements on technical factors with architectural works, while ensuring no pollution and ensuring utility factors for users. For the purpose of putting into practice, detailed landscape design solutions for the riverside should also be based on the requirements of the Cat Ba Amatina project developer such as green resort urban area; respecting the environment, ensuring ecology and applying high technology, artificial intelligence to the design. The options that are highly appreciated in the two competitions will have the opportunity to be selected by the project investor for official implementation.
