The working session between the VINACONEX Trade Union, the Cyprus Building, Wood Mine and General Workers Union and the Vietnam Construction Union provided an opportunity to exchange international experience in union practice, improve worker care and help build safe, harmonious and progressive workplaces.
On September 4, 2026, at VINACONEX headquarters and the Capital One project site, the Trade Union of VINACONEX JSC hosted a delegation from the Cyprus Building, Wood Mine and General Workers Union together with the Vietnam Construction Union for a visit and on-site working session.
The international delegation was led by Mr. Adamos Katalanos, General Secretary of the Cyprus Building, Wood Mine and General Workers Union. President Pham Hoai Phuong, and members of the working delegation represented the Vietnam Construction Union.
Welcoming the guests on behalf of VINACONEX were Mr. Tran Dinh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Director; Mr. Pham Thai Duong, General Director; and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, President of the Corporate Trade Union, along with members of the Union Standing Committee and heads of functional departments.
During the session, the parties held an open exchange on practical union experience, with a particular focus on occupational safety measures and effective workplace dialogue in construction businesses.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Hoai Phuong - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Member of the Party Executive Committee of the Ministry of Construction and Chairman of the Vietnam Construction Union - described union activity at VINACONEX as well organised, systematic and grounded in a long tradition, supported by strong commitment from the corporate leadership. The visit forms part of the annual exchange and cooperation programme between the Vietnam Construction Union and the Cyprus Building, Wood Mine and General Workers Union, creating a platform for both sides to share practical experience.
Mr. Adamos Katalanos highlighted the shared mission of trade unions in both countries. Despite differences in economic conditions and organisational models, he said, construction workers everywhere are the people who physically build their nation’s future - making it the core duty of any union to stand beside them, represent them and protect their rights. He also shared practical lessons from Cyprus on occupational health and safety, protective-equipment training, the enforcement of collective labour agreements and the hands-on role of grassroots union committees on site.
Speaking about the company’s development strategy, Mr. Pham Thai Duong affirmed the close working partnership between the Board of Management and the Trade Union. Listening to employees, improving working conditions and safeguarding their welfare, he said, is the key to motivating staff, engineers and workers to give their best and contribute to VINACONEX’s sustainable growth.
On behalf of the corporate leadership, Mr. Tran Dinh Tuan said the value of the visit lay not only in the topics discussed but in the opportunity to build mutual understanding, trust and new avenues for cooperation. Given the common ground in representing and protecting workers and fostering harmonious labour relations, VINACONEX is ready to work with the Vietnam Construction Union and Cypriot union partners on practical exchange activities in the period ahead.
As part of the programme, the delegation toured the Capital One project - an international-standard complex of retail space, offices, serviced apartments and a hotel, developed and built by VINACONEX. The visitors learned about the project’s scale and construction progress and joined a Toolbox Meeting. This start-of-shift safety briefing has become a signature part of the safety culture on VINACONEX sites. The delegation praised the rigour of the company’s safety management and its close attention to worker health on site.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Construction Union and the Cypriot delegation presented gifts and shared words of encouragement with the engineers and workers on the project.
The visit closed in a spirit of friendship and solidarity, strengthening ties between the union organisations and reaffirming VINACONEX’s standing not only as a leading construction and investment company, but as a business that leads in caring for its people and engaging proactively with international partners.
