Advanced training in design, management, and operation of high-speed rail systems
As part of the Training Program for High-Speed and Urban Railway Engineers, VINACONEX Corporation, in collaboration with Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), recently organized a field study program in China for lecturers and students of the Faculty of Bridge and Road Engineering.
Trainees receive intensive training in the design, management and operation of high-speed railways.
The program enabled participants to experience firsthand the operation models of modern rail networks, access cutting-edge technologies, and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation, a crucial step as transport infrastructure becomes a strategic focus in Vietnam’s national development plan.
In China, the delegation attended an academic exchange and training program at Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), one of the world’s leading institutions in railway engineering.
Here, participants received in-depth instruction on high-speed rail design and operations, and visited the high-temperature superconducting maglev laboratory, where pioneering technologies shaping the future of transportation are being developed.
The delegation also conducted a field study of the Chengdu - Chongqing High-Speed Railway, the fastest railway line in China, designed for speeds of up to 450 km/h.
The delegation visited CRRC Group - the world’s largest manufacturer of locomotives and rolling stock, along with project sites.
They participated in a series of specialized academic exchanges and technical field visits, including: Discussions with SWJTU experts on high-speed railway technology and future development trends; Working sessions at CRRC Group, focusing on locomotive manufacturing and signal systems;
Moreover, the participants had site visits to the Chengdu-Chongqing High-Speed Railway and Chongqing Metro Line 27, meetings with Chongqing Metro Group to study management and operational processes, and to experience the city’s modern monorail system.
The delegation also held technical working sessions with CRRC Ziyang, the Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd. (Unittec), and the Chongqing Railway Design Institute, engaging in deep-dive discussions on smart design, signaling systems, and operation solutions for urban railway networks. These exchanges opened up new opportunities for cooperation in technology transfer and practical application for transport infrastructure projects in Vietnam.
The course not only offered valuable hands-on experiences and direct exposure to cutting-edge railway technologies but also contributed to enhancing international collaboration in education and research.
Bridging Education with Practice
Representatives of the delegation shared that the course provided not only specialized technical knowledge but also helped broaden the global perspective of both lecturers and students.
“Visiting and studying at some of the world’s leading institutions was an invaluable opportunity for us to update ourselves on the latest technologies, helping improve the quality of teaching and research in the field of modern transportation,” one lecturer shared.
The initiative is recognized as an important step in the strategy to develop high-quality human resources, reflecting VINACONEX’s forward-looking vision of integration and technological mastery as a pioneer in national construction and transport infrastructure development.
Upon completion of the program, all participants successfully fulfilled the course requirements and were awarded Certificates of Completion in Advanced High-Speed and Urban Railway Studies by Southwest Jiaotong University.
The program not only provided deep, practical learning experiences and exposure to advanced global technologies, but also strengthened academic and research partnerships between Vietnam and international institutions.
That reaffirms Hanoi University of Civil Engineering’s commitment to aligning education with real-world practice and international integration, while underscoring VINACONEX’s dedication to supporting the technical education and transport infrastructure development in Vietnam.
