The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway project has gradually taken shape after seven months of construction, and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022.
The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway project has a length of 99 kilometers, a surface width of more than 32 meters, with six lanes, and allows a top speed of 120 kph. Kicked off at the end of September 2020, the VND12,500 billion ($543 million) project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. After seven months, the project passing through Long Khanh Town is shaping up. It is a part of the bidding package no. 4 implemented by the joint venture of Thang Long Corporation and Traffic Construction Corporation 6.
The expressway is built with six lanes and a top speed of 120 kph. Taking advantage of the rainy weather, workers compacted the expressway surface; this is considered one of the most important phases of the project.
The male engineers took the soil to check the quality of the compaction of the roadbed. "After taking the soil, we will conduct specific processes to assess the moisture, technical specs, and ground density," he said.
Quality supervision is carried out regularly by the Thang Long Project Management Board (project’s investor) to avoid errors. "This is a national key project, so the construction units in Package no.4 are fully consistent with the seriousness and science required by the investor," said Mr. Le Anh Tuan - Commander of package no.4.
The project construction has been implemented on rubber plantations with soft red soil, so it needs the raw materials from other places to strengthen the base after the red soil has already been compacted.
However, raw materials are currently in short supply as several mines have not yet operated.
Faced with these challenges, the Ministry of Transport has directed Dong Nai Province to facilitate procedures, ensuring the material supply for the project.
The determination of coordinates, centerline coordinates has been carefully recorded by engineers. According to Mr. Tuan, despite the objective challenges, engineers and workers have tried their best to complete the project on schedule while ensuring the project's quality.
The overpass construction site on package no.4 through Xuan Que commune, Cam My district, Dong Nai province. In addition to 16 kilometers of road, package 4 also includes 10 overpasses and 2 residential roads.
Workers were tying steel together and preparing to pour concrete over the overpass. According to the construction unit, this overpass is located on the section planned by Dong Nai Province, so it would be done first. The overpass is 4.75 meters above the expressway surface, making it eligible for vehicles to pass safely and in accordance with regulations.
The concrete factory, which was temporarily built on the side of the expressway to facilitate the construction of girders and culverts on the entire section. According to the Thang Long Project Management Board, the entire Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway includes four bidding packages, with packages 3 and 4 passing through Dong Nai province while packages 1 and 2 passing through Binh Thuan province
An overpass pier constructed in the Xuan Loc district, awaiting the setting up of girders to span Provincial Highway 765. The project is part of the project’s package no.3, which has a length of 33.5 kilometers and was built by a joint venture of Vinaconex and Trung Chinh Company.
Once completed, the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway would shorten the commute time from Ho Chi Minh City to the tourist center of Phan Thiet - Mui Ne to 2–2.5 hours from the current 4-5 hours via the national highway. The expressway would connect with Long Thanh airport, forming a seamless transportation axis between Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh.
The project has an important role for the socioeconomic growth of Binh Thuan and the surrounding areas.
Along with the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet section, the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay section - one of the North-South Expressway project, is converted from public-private partnership (PPP) to public investment and is scheduled for completion in 2022.
