THE AWARDING CEREMONY FOR THE ARCHITECTURAL AND LANDSCAPE DESIGNS OF THE CAT BA AMATINA PROJECT COMPETITIONS

On December 3 Vinaconex Investment and Tourism Development Joint-stock Company (Vinaconex - ITC) ) in collaboration with Architecture Magazine - Vietnam Association of Architects co-organized the awarding ceremony for the competions of the Commercial Center’s Architectural Design Plan and the Landscape Design Concept of the river’s both banks Phase 1 - Cat Ba Amatina Project at the National Architectural Planning & Construction Exhibition (located at No. 01 Do Duc Duc street, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi).

Cai Gia - Cat Ba tourism urban area (commercial name of Cat Ba Anatina), invested by Vinaconex-ITC Company, is located on Cat Ba Island, Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City. It has an area of more than 176 hectares and a number of modern, first-rate amenities that meet international standards such as 5-star hotels, condotels, luxury island villas, marinas, beaches, sports area, commercial center, tourist service areas, as well as indoor and outdoor entertainment.

Although the competitions were for domestic design consultancy units, the jury noted that the submitted proposals were incredibly creative, unique with quality comparable to that of worldwide consulting firms. That all shows the intensive investment in research of the contestants.

in the Architecture – Planning field had scored and selected the best solutions out of 10 ones from 8 design consulting units.

The competion’s results were unexpected when the organizers did not award the first prize. The two best solutions that won the joint second prize were belonged to Cubic Architecture Joint Stock Company (CUBIC) and TTA Partners Construction Architecture Joint Stock Company.

Architect Le Truong - Director of TTA Partners Construction Architecture JSC winning the second prize (no first prize) shared: “The major employers in Vietnam are usually interested in foreign architectural consulting units, but in this big competition for the Architectural Design Plan of the Cat Ba Amatina Tourist Urban Area’s Commercial Center, the employer has opened it for domestic units only. As a contestant I'm pleased about this and believe that domestic architectural consulting units can fully satisfy the project design requirements. In addition, the competition was organized in a professional, serious, and transparent manner that help design consultants develop their full potential.

Competition for the Landscape Design Concept of the river’s both banks Phase 1, Cat Ba Amatina Project

The Competition for the Landscape Design Concept of the river’s both banks Phase 1, Cat Ba Amatina Project was opened only to students majoring in Architecture - Planning from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Hanoi Architectural University.

During the competion time, the Organizing Committee received 19 proposals from outstanding student groups, each of which displayed the future architects' own creative discovery. The design concept of the group of students Nguyen Kien To, Au Thai Son, and Ha Khanh Hoa from the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering won the first prize with the concept of providing urban residents with a green living environment and an impressive experience for visitors coming to tourism urban area

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Architect Le Quan - Rector of Hanoi Architectural University said: “Given the project scope, this is really an attractive competition for architects and architecture students. With the careful and professional preparation, the competition will provide them with the opportinity to unleash their creativity and produce modern, advanced, rich cultural architectural works as what the Vietnam Association of Architects has been aiming for in recent years”.

Based on the winning design concept, the design details would be further revised in accordance with the professional advice of the Vietnam Association of Architects’s members and the employer’s investment goal so that the project can soon be put into operation

The competitions to select the architectural design of the Commercial Center and Landscape Design Concept of the river’s banks Phase 1 under the Cat Ba Amatina Project have officially ended with the deserved winners. However, their innovative and humanized architectural concepts would be continued actualizing by Vinaconex-ITC Company to become the iconic works of the project in the future, enhancing Cat Ba Pearl Island to become an appealing domestic and international holiday spot, aiding economic growth of Hai Phong city and the country in the new era.
