After 2 years of construction, a number of items under Vinh Tuy bridge project phase 2 has been completed. The KN5, the final and most important section spanning the main stream is expected to be joined on May 30, 2023 as scheduled. That serves as the basis for the Vinh Tuy Bridge project phase 2 to be put into operation in October 2023.
The second phase of the Vinh Tuy bridge project, with a total investment exceeding VND2,500 billion, commenced at the beginning of January 2021. The joint venture of Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation (VINACONEX) and Trung Chinh Trading and Construction Company Limited are undertaking the construction of XL1 package worth about VND1,154 billion (including provisions).According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chuong - director of the project's PMU, seven out of the eight segments of Vinh Tuy Bridge 2 were completed. It’s expected that Vinaconex would complete joining the KN5 - the final and most important section spanning the main stream on May 30. That serves as the basis for the Vinh Tuy Bridge project phase 2 to be put into operation in October 2023.A large number of workers and machines are diligently executing the remaining work to meet the set deadline for the project completion. Currently, Hanoi is enduring a period of high temperatures, the 40 degrees Celsius weather added heat radiating from the concrete surface presents significant challenges for workers.Despite the hot weather exceeding 40°C, the VINACONEX-Trung Chinh joint venture has persevered with the employment of about 100 workers operating in three shifts on an uninterrupted basis.“Given this high temperatures, workers will start working at 5 am, followed by an extended lunch break, and continue working until 6:30 pm in the afternoon. The project steering committee always encourages workers and employees to put in their best efforts towards working, prioritize construction safety and project quality.” – Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chuong informed.The workers at the construction site are engaged in working to complete the Vinh Tuy 2 bridge as once it is put into use, it will facilitate the transportation flow between the Red River's two banks, fulfill the rising transportation demands between Hanoi's central district and its northern and northeastern regions.The VINACONEX workers are currently performing sanitation duties beneath, preparing for the D-day.Workers take short breaks during severe weather conditions before continuing with their duties.Once the construction of the bridge is done, VINACONEX - Trung Chinh joint venture will undertake the final tasks including the concrete railings, expansion joints, trees, lighting, bridge deck, and road marking, in preparation for open for traffic in October 2023.Previously, VINACONEX - Trung Chinh contractors had successfully completed 108 out of 108 bored piles and 5 out of 5 pylons. As for the approaches, their upper structure spanning a distance of 2,168 m has been also completed.The XL1 package was finalized by the joint venture using over 90,000 cubic meters of concrete and 12,000 tons of steel. During the 2+ years of construction, despite facing the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and material cost increases, the joint venture was able to successfully complete the XL1 package within the designated schedule with the high determination and unremitting efforts.The construction of the Vinh Tuy 2 bridge faces restricted lifting of equipment and materials on the river due to its proximity to the Vinh Tuy 1 bridge. During the two-year period of project construction, safety was always a top priority for VINACONEX - Trung Chinh joint venture. They managed to minimize the impact of the old bridge on the project, while still ensuring the project progress.
Upon the project completion, it will facilitate the transportation flow between the Red River's two banks, fulfill the rising transportation demands between Hanoi's central district and its northern and northeastern regions, and gradually finalize the traffic infrastructure of the capital. Besides, it will remove traffic jams on the capital's key traffic routes, and reduce vehicles traffic on Thanh Tri Bridge and Ring Road No.3.
Vinh Tuy bridge project phase 2 is a level-1- bridge, road traffic works that has been built downstream, parallel to the existing Vinh Tuy bridge, the center of Vinh Tuy 2 bridge is 21.25 meters from the center of first bridge downstream of the Red River. Vinh Tuy 2 bridge has the same shape as Vinh Tuy 1 bridge with a total length of more than 3.5km, 19.25 m wide, and four lanes including two lanes for motor vehicles, one lane for buses, one lane for general use and a pedestrian. The starting point crosses paths with Tran Quang Khai, Nguyen Khoai, and Minh Khai streets in Hai Ba Trung district while the ending one is at the intersection of Long Bien and Thach Ban streets in Long Bien district. One the bridge opens for traffic, it’s expected to help complete the entire Ring Road No. 2 of Hanoi City.
