Alongside on-site inspections and resolving challenges for contracting units, Chairman of VINACONEX's BOD Nguyen Xuan Dong has called for a strong push in digital transformation across project management and execution, identifying it as a key strategy to boost productivity, optimize resources, and accelerate construction at Long Thanh International Airport.
On June 3, Chairman Nguyen Xuan Dong and General Director Pham Thai Duong conducted a site inspection and held working sessions with engineers and staff at the Long Thanh International Airport project and related transport infrastructure projects connecting the airport to Ho Chi Minh City.
During the working session, leadership received progress reports on various work packages at Long Thanh International Airport and its connecting transport infrastructure. They also provided on-the-ground direction, resolving bottlenecks and challenges to accelerate construction during this critical final phase.
Acknowledging the pressures faced by engineers and workers on the ground, leadership commended the dedication, effort, and determination of the VINACONEX team and all contracting units throughout the project. They noted that the progress achieved not only keeps key projects on track but also reinforces VINACONEX's capabilities, reputation, and brand. Leadership also affirmed their continued commitment to supporting workers and creating favorable conditions for them to perform at their best.
Throughout the session, Chairman Nguyen Xuan Dong stressed that each work package requires tailored solutions to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. He also directed project sites to accelerate digital transformation, setting a target for the Corporation to achieve full digital integration in project management and execution by the end of 2026. This initiative aims to streamline workflows, improve governance efficiency, enhance transparency, and enable faster decision-making on site. That is seen as critical to boosting productivity, saving resources, and accelerating project timelines.
General Director Pham Thai Duong outlined four key priorities for contracting units: (1) Scientific project management to meet deadlines; (2) Ensuring contractors and suppliers commit to schedules with payment plans aligned to progress; (3) Pushing documentation to reduce outstanding work in progress by June 2026; and (4) Proactively surfacing obstacles, proposing solutions, and flagging areas where leadership support is required.
In observance of Workers' Month and the summer heat season, the Corporation's Trade Union presented VND 70 million to the project management teams at Long Thanh International Airport and the Long Thanh - Ho Chi Minh City connection projects. The contribution reflects the Union's commitment to supporting the well-being of engineers and workers on these critical national projects.
As of early June 2026, construction at the Long Thanh passenger terminal - the heart of the project - is proceeding at full throttle. Key milestones have been achieved: reinforced concrete structures, steel frameworks, roofing, and facades are 100% complete; the structural framework, roofing, and envelope systems for the 11 PBBs are 95% complete; metal ceiling installation stands at 75%; and interior tiling and finishing work has reached 65%.
Across other critical work packages, VINACONEX remains on track to meet all assigned deadlines.
Despite ongoing obstacles, VINACONEX continues to mobilize maximum resources and coordinate closely with all stakeholders to accelerate construction, striving to complete all work as directed by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Construction, and the investor, ensuring that this national key project - Long Thanh International Airport - is ready for commissioning and operations by the end of 2026.
