In two days (from 6 to 7 June 2010), Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan – Chairman of Vinaconex JSC attended the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia on “Rethinking Asia’s Leadership Agenda” in Ho Chi Minh City.

WEF is one of the most prestigious global forums that attract attention and participation of many leaders from governments, international organizations, as well as leading corporations in the world to discuss about global outstanding issues and events. Since 1989, WEF regularly invited Vietnam to Annual Meetings at Davos and WEF Conferences on East Asia. This year, the event was organized in Vietnam for the first time, which was the result of active participation of Vietnamese government and businesses, and  showed WEF’s high appreciation of significant economic achievements of the country. At present, VINACONEX is one of 12 Vietnamese corporations who participate as a member of WEF, and is one amongst nine Vietnamese members of in the Global Growth Company(GGC) under WEF.

Main issues  discussed at WEF on East Asia this time included: the emerging role of Asia, global risks, green growth programs and future growth programs of Asia. Over 450 delegates including: Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwant, WTO General Director Pascal Lamy, OECD Vice General Secretary, Ministers of Economics of some countries,  senior officials of the monetary financial institutions like ADB, IMF, etc., and large enterprises around the world attended and delivered their speeches at the Conference.

More than 450 delegates participated in sessions of WEF

As a representative of the host country Vietnam, Prime Minister  Nguyen Tan Dung delivered his speech to open the  Forum  on 6 June 2010 and attended two sessions in the official program. In particular, Mr. Pham Gia Khiem - Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of Foreign affairs, Mr. Hoang Trung Hai - Deputy Prime Minister, leaders of other Ministries, People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh city, and some other Vietnamese scholars also joined as the main speakers in nearly 20 sessions of the event.

This was the third participation of Chairman Tuan into WEF’s events after his trip to Seoul (South Korea) in June 2009 and Dailian (China) in October 2009. Joining the event this time, Mr. Chairman attended five plenary sessions and several parallel sessions, the Welcome dinner hosted by President Nguyen Minh Triet at ReunificationPalace on 6 June 2010, and the closing session on 7 June 2010. Following this, VINACONEX will continue sending representatives to participate and meet many potential partners at the upcoming events organized by WEF in order to benefit further from WEF membership.
